There has been a total of 630 DUI arrests so far this year, a decrease of 12.86% compared with 723 total arrests during the same period in 2025.

Convoys of 10 to 15 military vehicles carrying personnel and equipment are slated through Oct. 22 to and from Pōhakuloa Training Area and Kawaihae Pier.

Investigators determined a green 1998 Toyota pickup truck was traveling south the night of Oct. 2 on North Kulani Road when the driver lost control, causing the truck to veer onto the right shoulder, strike a tree and overturn; he was found unresponsive at the scene.

The closure will be near the intersection of King Kamehameha Boulevard and Kohala Boulevard.

The public is notified that convoys are planned for 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Sept. 20 between Pōhakuloa Training Area and Kawaihae Pier.

The project in Hawaiian Beaches is slated to begin Sept. 14, with work hours of 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and expected to be completed in August 2027.

Big Island police identified the victim as 43-year-old Faavae Maualaivao of Kāneʻohe, Oʻahu, who was found unresponsive after being ejected from his motorcycle during the crash; an autopsy was ordered to determine his exact cause of death.

The highway was closed earlier Saturday evening, between Old Saddle Road and Highway 190, because of a traffic crash.
