An unusually strong upper level disturbance moving over Hawai‘i now also brings a threat of flash flooding. A flood watch is in effect for the entire state until 6 a.m. Saturday.

The major difference between precipitation during Lane as compared to this weekend is the rate of precipitation fall.

Limit your travel to necessary trips as driving conditions are dangerous and life threatening.

The Hawai‘i County Fire Department responded to a Flash Flood Search and Rescue at Anna’s Ranch in Waimea on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, at 4:21 p.m.

 The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the Flash Flood Watch for the Big Island until late tonight.

The public is asked to avoid these areas or use alternative routes if they must travel. State Highways is placing caution signs. Please drive with caution is these areas or stay home if travel is not necessary. 

Heavy thunder showers are expected to continue through today. Hawaiʻi County Police reports all roads are open at this time, but advise that driving conditions are poor because of occasional heavy downpours. Due the heavy rains, be on the alert for possible road closures.

A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for the Big Island through late Thursday.

Spencer Park at ‘Ōhai‘ula Beach has been temporarily closed by the Hawai’i County Department of Parks and Recreation as a result of flood damage.

Fourteen members of a tour group were trapped Monday along Lalakea Trail in Honoka’a after flash flooding occurred.

Coastal waters around the Big Island remain under a Small Craft Advisory until 6 p.m. Sunday.
