National Weather Service radar indicated at just before 3 p.m. Friday that heavy rain was falling at a rate of up to 1 inch per hour over locations that included Kailua-Kona, Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport, Captain Cook and Waikōloa, among others.

The earlier mandatory restriction was put in place because of a prolonged power outage. While power was restored, the Hawai‘i County Department of Water Supply continues to work to replenish water storage levels.

North Kona water restriction downgraded to voluntary conservation notice
Customers in the district are asked to adhere to a voluntary 10% water conservation notice instead of the 25% water restriction, which had been in effect since Aug. 7, 2023.
