A temporary water shutoff is scheduled for portions of North Kona on Tuesday, May 19, as crews install a new waterline connection along Hawaiʻi Belt Road, according to the Hawaiʻi County Department of Water Supply.

Water service will be unavailable from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for all customers along Hawaiʻi Belt Road (Highway 190) between Puʻukala Road and Lamaola Homestead Road, as well as for all services along Puʻukala Road in Kalaʻoa.

Officials said customers might experience cloudy or discolored water as crews flush and clean the lines after service is restored.

Residents might also notice trapped air in plumbing systems during initial water use.

Department officials urge affected customers to prepare in advance by storing drinking water and protecting equipment that depends on water pressure, including pumps and other electrically powered systems that could be damaged during the outage.

The department apologizes for the temporary inconvenience and said customers with questions can contact district supervisors Joshule Johnston or Dustin Kaneta-Ogata at 808-322-0600.
