Two people shown in surveillance images at a Hilo mall who then got into a tussle with store security personnel surrendered last week to police.

Police had asked for the public’s help identifying the two on April 21. The following day, the two turned themselves in at the Hilo police station.

As a result, police arrested 19-year-old Obed Kamanao Kuahiwinui Jr. He was charged on Wednesday, April 23, with robbery and theft, and his bail was set at $5,250.

The 15-year-old girl depicted in the surveillance images was arrested and released to her parents without charges. Because she is a minor, she has not been identified.

The incident began when a female patron was observed concealing an item and leaving the store without paying.

When she and her male companion were confronted outside, the male allegedly threw one of the employees to the ground, causing injuries to his head and ribs. The pair then fled the area on foot.
