Update: Wind advisory now in effect through Thursday for Big Island summits

New advisory takes place of previous high wind warning. Mountaintops of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa still expected to see winds of 45 to 55 mph, with gusts up to 65 mph.

Bird flu detected in Hawaiʻi County

H5 avian influenza was detected in influent collected Dec. 2 at Hilo Wastewater Treatment Plant. This is the first time the bird flu was detected on the Big Island and the first detection of H5 avian influenza on a neighbor island.
