Traditions and cultural practices are made into a day of fun on March 3 for Hinamatsuri or Girls’ Day at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo.

It’s V-Day. The commercial day of pink hearts, sparkly things, flowers, and toothache inducing sweetness. Or, not. Either way, here are a few activities for those that are in love/lust, the friend zone, or say “it’s complicated,” on their relationship status.

Be transported Wednesday to Spain and Latin America, when music was as opulent as the commissioned paintings and sculptures of the Old World.

Filling the hours with work is easy. Take the weekend to challenge the status quo and try something new. Whatever it is, make Monday your respite from a weekend of hard play.

Go out. Have fun, and spend time laughing with those you want to hug tight, share a basket of fries with, or get to know better. Just do.

Old school soul is coming your way with the University of Hawai’i at Hilo’s Jazz Orchestra Rhythm and Blues Revue.

Original choreography, impressive stage work, aerial dance, ballet, jazz dance and more will be on display at the Great Leaps dance event on December 1 at 7:30 p.m.
