Traditions and cultural practices are made into a day of fun on March 3, for Hinamatsuri or Girls’ Day at the University of Hawai’i at Hilo.

This 9th annual celebration for the girls will have live entertainment, food sampling, silent auction, door prizes and more.

Yummy edibles will be served from 3 p.m. in the Campus Center Plaza, and will feature foods from Abundant Life Natural Foods, AJ & Sons, Big Island Delights, Crivello’s Place, Ken’s House of Pancakes, Kozmic Cones, Kuhio Grille, Liko Lehua Café, Millie’s Deli & Snack Shop, Pineapples, Ponds Hilo and Sodexo Campus Services.

At 5 p.m., Nani Lim Yap and Friends will entertain with hula and song at the UHH Performing Arts Center. Native Big Islander Yap is well-known for her songstress skill and kumu hula talent. Her halau has won big in multiple Merrie Monarch competitions.

The Lim Family has released three CD’s and have been in the music scene for decades.

Tickets are $40 and are available from the box office Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or order online at artscenter.uhh.hawaii.edu.
