FEMA Briefing for State and County Agencies Tuesday

Applicant briefings for state, county, and certain private, non-profit organizations have been scheduled by federal and state disaster recovery officials. These briefings will aid these groups in retrieving eligible costs associated with the June 27 lava flow.

President Obama signed a disaster declaration on Nov. 3 for the lava flow erupting from the Pu‘u ‘Ō‘ō vent on of Kilauea.

The Presidential Disaster Declaration allows eligible government and non-profit agencies to apply for reimbursement on a cost-share basis for event-related emergency protective measures. The funding is available through the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Public Assistance program.

The briefing for Hawai’i County will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Hawai’i County Civil Defense Agency, located on Ululani Street in Hilo.

Additionally, a State of Hawai’i briefing will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 19 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Hawai’i Emergency Management Agency (formerly State Civil Defense) in Honolulu.

Those encouraged to attend are representatives of state, county, and certain private, non-profit organizations. These groups may have already taken emergency protective measures, or are anticipating taking emergency protective measures in response to the lava flow.
