Temporary water shutoff scheduled next week for several locations in Waiākea Uka
Hawai‘i County Department of Water Supply notifies the public that water will be temporarily shut off from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 14 in the following locations in the Waiākea Uka area of Hilo:
- ʻĀinaloa Drive, mauka (mountainside) of Waikahe Road.
- Hoaka Road, mauka of Māla‘ai Road.
- Māla‘ai Road, Ala Waena Street and and ʻAinakahele Street, including all side roads and lanes.

The shutoff is necessary for crews to make emergency repairs to a water main.
Affected customers are asked to take any and all precautions necessary to protect their property and facilities including, but not limited to:
- Turning off power to pumps and other devices dependent on water pressure and/or water supply for normal operations.
- Turning off power to appliances and other devices that might be damaged if automatically energized during the water shutoff.
Customers in the affected areas also should set aside drinking water ahead of time to meet their essential water needs until normal water service resumes.
“Please pardon this temporary inconvenience,” said the county Department of Water Supply in its notice about the upcoming water shutoff.
Waterlines will be flushed and cleaned when service is restored, during which time customers in the affected areas might notice turbid and/or discolored water.
Customers also could have trapped air in their plumbing, which will be released as they initially use water.
