The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for north- and east-facing shores on Hawaiʻi Island.

The advisory is in effect for North Kohala, Hāmākua, North Hilo, South Hilo, and the Puna districts until further notice.

A high surf advisory means surf will be higher than normal. Shore breaks and dangerous currents could cause injury or death. Beachgoers, swimmers, and surfers should heed all advice given by ocean safety officials and exercise caution when entering the water.

Additionally, extreme high tides during the early mornings will lead to flooding in low-lying areas. Drivers are advised to proceed with caution.
