University of Hawai‘i at Hilo Vulcan soccer players showed up and showed out on the field the week of Oct. 13-19, dominating their opponents and notching a total of 3 wins between them — all shutouts.

Men’s soccer player Koki Hamada was named Pacific West Conference Defender of the Week for his exemplary play during his squad’s two matchups — one at home and the other on O‘ahu.

The first was a 3-0 win in Hilo against Hawai‘i Pacific University followed up 2 days later by a 4-0 defeat of Chaminade in Honolulu.

The fourth-year senior and three-time All-PacWest Team selection has commanded the Vulcans defensive backline since starting the first match of his collegiate career.

Hamada allowed a combined total of just 8 team shots, with only 2 being on goal; tallied 17 interceptions; made 21 defensive tackles; and forced 21 aerial duels throughout the course of both games last week.
