Honoka‘a motorcyclist killed after being ejected from bike in Mountain View crash
A 34-year-old Honoka‘a man died the night of Aug. 11 after being ejected from a motorcyle he was riding when it veered off the roadway and struck a tree in Mountain View at the intersection of Pūhala and Hibiscus streets.
The motorcyclist is identified as Hapaki Teixeira.

Hawai‘i Island Police determined after responding to the scene just before 10 p.m. Monday that the 2007 Suzuki Boulevard motorcycle Teixeira was riding was traveling north on Pūhala Street when he lost control and veered off the roadway.
The motorcycle then struck a tree and Teixeira, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected.
Teixeira was transported to Hilo Benioff Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 10:08 p.m.
An autopsy was ordered to determine his exact cause of death.
Hawai‘i Police Department’s East Hawai‘i Traffic Enforcement Unit responded to the scene and is continuing to investigate. The investigation is classified as a coroner’s inquest.
Police do not think at this time speed was a factor in the crash.

This is the 15th traffic fatality of 2025 on the Big Island. Hawai‘i Island police had recored 21 traffic fatalities by the same time last year.
