Flood advisory for eastern parts of Big Island until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the east side of the Big Island until 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

At about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, radar and automated rain gauges indicate heavy rain over the eastern side of the Big Island south of Laupahoehoe. Rain was falling at a rate of up to 1 inch per hour. Honoli’i Stream has risen steading over the last several hours.

Some locations that will experience flooding include Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Mountain View, Keaau, Glenwood, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidland Estates, Volcano, Papaikou, Pepeekeo, Pāhoa, Honomu, Hakalau, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Ninole, Laupahoehoe, Kurtistown, Fern Acres and Wainaku.

There could be minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas and in streams.
