Fire Hydrant Flow Tests Scheduled Next Week
The county Department of Water Supply is notifying customers in two areas of the Big Island that it will conduct two fire hydrant flow tests next week.
The first will be conducted from 9-10 p.m. April 26 on Kalanianaʻole Avenue in Hilo. Customers that could be affected by the test include those along Kalanianaʻole Avenue, between Silva Street and Kea‘a Street, including all side roads and lanes.
The second fire hydrant flow test is scheduled for 9:30-10:30 p.m. April 27 along Kawaihae Road for the Kamuela Inn in Waimea. Customers who could be affected by this test include those along Kawaihae Road, between Ho‘okipa Street and the south side of Lindsey Road, including all side roads and lanes.
Customers in the affected areas of both tests could experience slightly discolored and turbid water for several hours after the test. They are advised to refrain from washing clothes and to store a container of water for their drinking needs until the water supply is restored to normal.
Please pardon this temporary inconvenience.
Customers in the affected area of the Kalanianaʻole Avenue flow test who experience any unusual problems during or after the flushing period should call district supervisor Carl Nishimura at 808-961-8790. Those customers in the affected area of the Kawaihae Road flow test who experience any unusual problems should call district supervisor William O’Neil at 808-887-3030.
