UPDATE: Downed Utility Poles Close Bayfront Highway

The Hawai’i Police and County of Hawai’i are now saying the closure may last through the weekend.

A detour will be maintained through the Wainaku area near the Alae Cemetery in the Honolii area.

Multiple downed utility poles on Bayfront Highway have caused a closure.

The Hawai’i Police Department reports the closure, which stretches from Pauahi Street to Hau Street in the Wainaku area.

Motorists driving through the area should use Wainaku Street as a alternate route and expect delays in the area.

HPD says the closure will last through Sunday morning.

As of 6:55 p.m., a power outage in Wainaku has been reported. There is no estimated time of power restoration in that area, according to Hawai’i Electric Light.
