Hilo Man Charged for Burglary in Tobacco Theft

A 32-year-old Hilo man has been arrested and charged in connection with a weekend burglary at a Hilo business.

The incident occurred at 7:25 p.m. on Sunday evening, April 26, when the suspect broke into a business on the 700 block of Leilani Street and stole roughly $150 worth of cigarettes.

A police investigation led to the identification of the suspect as Konyaku Kaili of Hilo.  Kaili was arrested shortly after midnight on Monday, April 27, after police stopped him on suspicion of traffic offenses and burglary.

Kaili was taken to the Hilo police cellblock while police continued the investigation.

On Tuesday afternoon, April 28, Kaili was charged with second-degree burglary, driving without a license, and no auto insurance.  His bail was set at $2,525.

His initial court appearance was scheduled Wednesday, April 29.
