A day after Monday’s announcement of Malama Market’s closure, Malama Mart Gas N Go in the Pahoa Marketplace announced it will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday night.

The gas station, which operates under the Aloha Petroleum brand and is co-owned by the staff of Malama Market and Aloha Petroleum Ltd., will cut off its sales of fuel at 6 p.m. According to a release, Aloha Petroleum will then take necessary steps to remove the remaining fuel from its underground storage tanks and remove equipment within the next three days.

On Monday, Hawai’i County Civil Defense Administrator Darryl Oliveira talked to reporters about the process of preserving the gas tank, including using water and firefighting class B foam.

Malama Market announced Monday it would begin the process of closing its store. It will remain open until 10 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday before shutting down at 6 p.m. Thursday. Employees at the store will be breaking down materials from the store during that time.
