80-Year-Old Puna Man Victim of Home Invasion

An 80-year-old resident of Hawaiian Paradise Park was the victim of a home invasion early this morning, police said.

A man with his face covered by fabric entered a house on 1st Avenue off Maku`u Drive shortly before 2:30 a.m. brandishing what appeared to be a firearm.

Police said the man threatened the elderly male resident and then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect was described as Caucasian, 6-foot-2 and 140 pounds, with brown eyes and a long, thin face. He was wearing baggy brown pants and a short-sleeved, multi-colored shirt.

Anonymous tips can be phoned to Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.

This was the second home invasion in the Puna subdivision in the past five weeks.

On June 2, two masked men entered a home on Ala Heiau Road, located about two blocks makai of today’s incident. One of the suspects assaulted and threatened a 68-year-old man living there.
