A grand jury has returned a second-degree murder indictment against David True Seal in the Nov. 5 death of an Eden Roc man, county Prosecuting Attorney Mitch Roth said today.

Seal, who escaped from the state mental hospital in 2009, is accused of stabbing 32-year-old Rory Thompson Wick at his upper Puna home.

According to court documents, the 34-year-old Seal confessed to officers arriving at the scene.

The grand jury indictment supercedes charges filed by police following the stabbing.

Seal had been committed to the Oahu mental hospital in April 2002 after being acquitted, by reason of insanity, of charges of kidnapping and attempted sexual assault of an 8-year-old girl on Maui.

Police said prior to the stabbing, he had been living in Mountain View under the alias of Serif Swaim.

Seal is currently undergoing a medical evaluation to determine his fitness for trial.

He is being held without bail pending trial in Circuit Court.
