Family Escapes House Fire in Hilo

Firefighters responding to a call just after midnight on Dec. 21 from a house on Hoku street in Hilo arrived to find the single-story home fully engulfed in flames.

The home’s occupants, two parents and a child, reportedly escaped unharmed. 19 Hawaii Fire Department personnel worked to extinguish the fire, bringing it under control at 1:10 a.m. The fire also spread to a nearby dwelling, which sustained minor damage. No other homes were affected.

No injuries were reported

Four fire engines and two medical units responded to the call, while six Hawaii Police Department officers assisted with traffic and crowd control. A victim relief team from the American Red Cross was also present.

Fire personnel are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
