Police arrested a 64-year-old Glenwood man early today following a standoff that prompted the closing overnight of a road in the Fern Forest subdivision.

Police received a report at 10:22 a.m. Monday of a man on Kokokahi Road threatening neighbors with a machete. When officers arrived, the man, identified as Dasa Sivam, barricaded himself inside his house and told police that he had a large machine gun. Officers could hear Sivam banging a large object against the front door.

The police department’s Special Response Team was called to the scene and negotiated all night with the man. Shortly before 5 a.m., the suspect emerged from the house and, following a confrontation, was arrested on suspicion of terroristic threatening.

To protect the public, police blocked Kokokahi Road from 1 p.m. Monday until Sivam was arrested.

A member of the team sustained minor injuries when a stairway he was standing on collapsed.

Police said no machine gun was found, but officers did recover a machete and a small-caliber air gun.

Sivam was being held today without charges while police continued their investigation.
