For one night only, the Big Island’s Gates Performing Arts Center turns into Broadway with showstopping show tunes from the Hawai’i Performing Arts Festival’s musical theater students on July Tuesday July 23.

A night of gorgeous classical and jazz music begins at 7 p.m. on July 18, with Gary Washburn and Ignace “Iggy” Jang at the Honoka’a People’s Theatre.

It is a rare weekend of rather diverse options in activity and fun on our Big Island. Here is a little list of potential plans which includes a Bon Dance, Drag Show, Pride Day and more.

For the lucky ones with a weekend devoid of work and other mundane commitments, there’s a gala event, Hawaiian music legends, and even a drive-in movie experience to be had.

Violin virtuoso Chee-Yun will perform Friday with Ignace “Iggy” Jang and HPAF string faculty and students for a gala event at the Four Seasons Resort at Hualalai.
