The Salvation Army is asking for the community to lend a hand by volunteering to ring the Red Kettle bell at 11 Big Island locations this year.

The Island of Hawaiʻi YMCA has planned three family-friendly events for the week of Halloween.

This year’s event to fight back against cancer and celebrate survivors is from 5 p.m. to midnight July 20 at Francis Wong Stadium in Hilo.

This year, the event took place Oct. 5-6 in Hilo and is planned for 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 10-11 and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 12 in Kona.

Amid the crisis after devastating wildfires swept across West Maui on Aug. 8, the unifying and healing power of mele (music) has summoned Maui’s celebrated recording artists, including Grammy and Nā Hōkū Hanohano winners, and hula hālau to gather to help those impacted.
