Hawaiian Electric employees and retirees, with the support of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1260, raised more than $63,400 for Hawai‘i Island United Way during the company’s workplace campaign in 2022.
The campaign supports underserved and vulnerable individuals, families and communities in need. Hawai‘i Island United Way will distribute the funds through its partner agencies.
The funds were raised through various programs and events, including a cookbook fundraiser, a virtual 5K walk, a “Hot Ones” spice challenge, and employee and retiree pledges.

Hawaiʻi Island United Way’s fundraising partnership with Hawaiian Electric employees and retirees spans many years, according to Karen Davis, Hawaiʻi Island United Way president and chief professional officer.
The theme of the campaign was “Hoʻomau,” which describes the company’s efforts to persist, persevere and perpetuate support for United Way and its good work in the community.
