Election season is in full swing and the Hawai‘i Democratic Party invites voters to meet its candidates face-to-face before next month’s primary election.

A collaboration of individuals and organizations dedicated to Native Hawaiian youth civic engagement is hosting a Republican gubernatorial candidate forum tonight (Thursday, July 7).

Ballots for this year’s primary election are expected to arrive in Big Island mailboxes by July 26 and Waimea Community Association wants voters to be as informed as possible before making their first choices.

The Waimea Community Association is hosting six candidates in the race to become the state’s next lieutenant governor for an online forum today.

People seeking office this year can make their intentions paperwork official beginning next week.

Wednesday has been a moving day for presidential challenger Joe Biden, who according to several official counts now stands one state away from claiming the United States presidency.

Early results showed most incumbents for Hawai‘i County’s leadership positions in the House of Representatives would keep their seats.

There’s a new man in charge on the Big Island. 

Initial election results for the state were delayed several hours due to huge voter turnout to the polls on Election Day with final ballots being cast on O‘ahu after 11 p.m.

Adding to Hawai‘i’s timing issues appears to be the factor of voter turnout at polling places, where long lines persisted beyond 7 p.m. Tuesday evening. 

Places of Deposit will be available to all voters beginning Oct. 14, 2020, up to 7 p.m. on Nov. 3, General Election Day.

The Postal Service also recommends that voters mail their ballots at least one week prior to their states’ due dates to allow for timely receipt by election officials.
