Police are investigating a robbery that took place Wednesday night at a Kailua-Kona restaurant.

The suspect entered the establishment near the intersection of Palani Road and Kuakini Highway at about 10:30 p.m., after it had closed.

Police said the man approached a female employee from behind, threatened her with a weapon and forced her into another room before grabbing an undisclosed amount of cash. He then fled the area on foot.

Police said the suspect was a Caucasian man in his mid-20s to early-30s, about 5-foot-8 and 160 pounds. He was wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black Nike-brand athletic shoes. He may have had khaki shorts under his pants.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Det. Walter Ah Mow at 326-4646, ext. 238, or the police department’s non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Anonymous tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 329-8181 in Kona or 961-8300 in Hilo.
