No Tsunami Threat from 6.8 New Zealand Earthquake

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issue a statement saying that there is currently no threat of a pacific-wide tsunami from a 6.8 earthquake that struck today south-east of New Zealand.

The earthquake, which struck at a depth of 6.2 miles, occurred at 4:31 p.m. Hawai`i-time.

The epicenter of the quake was located 26 miles south and 108 miles east of the North Island of New Zealand (one of two main islands in the area), it occurred in a region known as the Cook Strait.
