New Instrument Providing UH Researchers With Stunning Images
Scientists at the University of Hawaii at Manoa have a new tool that allows for research that is turning out to be one part science and one part art.
The Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology is using a laser-scanning confocal microscope to capture stunning images of coral.
The technology is being showcased in a new Public Broadcasting System digital video series called “Under H2O,” which allows views of live corals and associated microorganisms from a new perspective.

The microscope was acquired by the UH’s School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology with the help of a donation from Pam Omidyar.
