Abercrombie Signs Bill Repealing Public Land Development Corp.
It’s official. The Public Land Development Corp. is no more.
Gov. Neil Abercrombie, a supporter of the 2011 law that created the PLDC, today acknowledged the public’s enmity of the move and signed House Bill 1133 which dissolves the controversial agency.
Abercrombie’s comment on the action was brief.
“As with any new law, public understanding and support are essential,” said the statement issued by his press secretary, Louise Kim McCoy. “In the case of the PLDC, best intentions and the potential for public good could not be reconciled with public concerns.”
With the exception of a few members who were not present, the House and Senate were unanimous in their votes to repeal the PLDC.
Earlier this month the House agreed with changes to the bill made by the Senate, which sent the bill directly to the governor.
