Potable water should again be available in Hawaiian Ocean View Estates next week, the county Department of Water Supply said today.

A contractor hired by the county has located a spare pump and motor to replace the equipment that broke down on April 2, spokeswoman Kanani Aton said. According to the contractor, repairs are expected to be completed by the middle of next week, she said.

After the existing supply in the well’s 300,000-gallon reservoir was reduced to a minimum level about a week ago, residents of Hawaiian Ocean View Estates and other area subdivisions have been forced to travel to spigot stations in Wai‘ohinu and Ho‘okena to obtain potable water.

The county required commercial water haulers to go to standpipes in those towns immediately after the well broke down.
