Gov. Neil Abercrombie asked today that residents of the Aloha State join those from Connecticut and across the US for a moment of silence in memory of the victims of the Newtown school massacre.

The moment of silence will be observed at 9:30 a.m., Hawaii time, on Friday, Dec. 21.

Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy issued a letter to fellow governors today asking all states to consider joining the moment of silence at 9:30 a.m. in their respective time zones.

Dec. 21 has been declared a day of mourning in Connecticut, which suffered the second-worst school shooting in US history on Dec. 14 when gunman Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
