The Hawai’i Fire Fighters Association (HFFA) has given their mayoral endorsement to Billy Kenoi, the current mayor of the County of Hawaii. The endorsement comes more than five months ahead of the November 6 general election.
In a release sent on Monday, Bobby Lee, president of the HFFA said that “Mayor Kenoi is committed to ensuring quality public safety services for Big Island residents and is dedicated to all of the residents and visitors on the Island of Hawai‘i.”
The association cited several factors for their endorsement of Kenoi. They mentioned an $800,000 federal grant that upgraded fire equipment, the construction of the Makalei Fire Station, and $4 million to enhance the department’s service to the county.
“When everyone else is running out, our fire fighters and paramedics are running in. They are on the front line carrying out the primary responsibility of county government — maintaining a safe and healthy community for all our families. I am honored by this endorsement,” said Kenoi in the association’s media release.
