Boil water notice canceled for Kaʻieʻie/Pāpaʻikou area
Hawaiʻi County Department of Water Supply notifies the public that a precautionary boil water notice previously in effect for the Kaʻieʻie/Pāpaʻikou area was canceled as of late the afternoon of Nov. 4.
The notice was originally issued because of discoloration, abnormal chlorine residual and turbidity (cloudiness) levels while Water Supply officials investigated water quality conditions.

Laboratory testing of water samples collected since the weekend did not detect any bacteria. Color, chlorine residual and turbidity levels also improved, and the department determined water quality conditions are acceptable for normal use.
It is no longer necessary for customers in the area to boil tap water or use bottle water for drinking, cooking, making ice or brushing teeth. Customers can resume normal use of tap water.
Water Supply officials recommend flushing building, residential taps, hose bibbs, water fountains and ice makers for several minutes — based on the extent of customers’ plumbing — before first use.
The department will continue to monitor water quality and flush the system as appropriate.
