As the recipient of the Best Remuda Award, Parker Ranch has been recognized for its outstanding American Quarter Horse breeding programs and the working horses that make ranching possible.

Established in 1992, the American Quarter Horse Association’s Best Remuda Award honors ranches that maintain exceptional American Quarter Horse breeding programs and preserve the important role of the working ranch horse.

“This award recognizes decades of selecting durable, versatile working American Quarter Horses specifically for Parker Ranch’s cowboys and our diverse landscape,” said Keoki Wood, livestock operations manager at Parker Ranch. “Horses are not only essential to getting our work done but they are our partners in doing so.”

“We are humbled to be included among the other great ranches that are also Remuda Award recipients,” Wood continued.

At Parker Ranch, horses remain an integral part of the working cattle operation. The ranch’s horse program is focused on producing safe, functional and durable working horses for Parker Ranch cowboys, while also providing quality ranch and performance horses to the broader Hawaiʻi community.

Parker Ranch produced its first registered Quarter Horse in 1955, has been a lifetime American Quarter Horse Association member since the early 1960s and was recognized as an AQHA 50-Year Cumulative Breeder in 2021.

The honor follows Parker Ranch’s selection as a recipient of the 2025 Beef Quality Assurance Cow-Calf Award, which recognizes producers who demonstrate exceptional animal care and handling practices and a commitment to continuous improvement.

The award highlights the ranch’s stewardship of its land, animals and people and its commitment to cattle health, beef quality and food safety.

Both awards place Parker Ranch among a rare group of ranches recognized for excellence in both cattle and horses just as the ranch approaches its 180th anniversary in 2027.
