Preliminary autopsy results find man died from gunshot wound

Hawai‘i Police Department continues investigating the death of a man whose body was found Sept. 14 on Kuawa Street in Hilo.

The victim was positively identified as 76-year-old Donald Lawrence Yukitomo of Hilo.

An autopsy was preformed Sept. 15 at Hilo Benioff Medical Center. Preliminary results determined Yukitomo died from a gunshot wound.

The case is being investigated as a homicide.

He was known to frequent the Kuawa Park area, where he was found dead, and police ask the public for help with providing any information regarding Yukitomo or the incident.

Detectives from Hawai‘i Police Department Area I Criminal Investigation Section are handling the investigation.
