Hawaiʻi County notifies the public that a shoulder improvement project for Kahakai Boulevard in Hawaiian Beaches is scheduled to begin later this month.

The county Department of Public Works project is slated to begin Sept. 14, with work hours of 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and expected to be completed in August 2027.

It will involve shoulder construction, driveway reconstruction, drainage improvements and utility adjustments along Kahakai Boulevard from Pūnāwai Street to Honu Street.

Contractor is Jas. W. Glover, Ltd.

Motorists should plan ahead for possible lane shifts or single lane closures, with alternating traffic, and expect delays during construction.

Lane closures will be limited to the hours between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Motorists should also use caution when traveling through the area and allow additional travel time.
