High levels of bacteria detected at Kahaluʻu Beach Park in Kona

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health is retesting the water at Kahaluʻu Beach Park on the Kona Coast after detecting high levels of bacteria during routine beach monitoring.

The Department of Health detected levels of 1,013 per 100 milliliters, but is uncertain about the representativeness of the first sample since the beach has historically met the acceptable threshold level and there is no known source of fecal contamination.

The Department of Health has collected another sample and is retesting the site. The notification will be updated based on the results.
