Kawamoto Swim Stadium in Hilo to reopen Friday

The Charles “Sparky” Kawamoto Swim Stadium is set to reopen Friday, April 24, following repairs to the pool pump.

The pool has been closed since March 24 when lightning damaged the pump, according to the County of Hawaiʻi Department of Parks and Recreation.

The pool will be closed Saturday, April 25, for a swim competition. Scheduled full and partial closures are listed below:

  • Tuesday, April 28 (partial closure): Open to the public 6 to 7:30 a.m. and 12 to 6 p.m.
  • Friday, May 8: D.A.R.E Day
  • Saturday, May 9: Kawamoto staff to work at Novice Championship Meet at Pāhoa
  • Friday, May 15 (partial closure): Open to the public 6 to 8 a.m. and 1 to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, May 21 (partial closure)Open to the public 6 to 8 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m.
  • Friday, May 22 (partial closure): Open to the public 6 to 8 a.m. and 1 to 6 p.m.
  • Monday, May 25: Memorial Day
  • Thursday, June 11: King Kamehameha Day
  • Friday, June 19: Waiākea Uka Summer Fun
