Management of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park requires the use of aircraft to monitor and research volcanic activity, conduct search-and-rescue missions and law enforcement operations, support management of natural and cultural resources and to maintain backcountry facilities.

Hawaiian Volcano Observatory also might conduct additional flight operations over Kīlauea and Mauna Loa to assess volcanic activity and maintain instrumentation.
April flight operations
10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. April 2: Support invasive plant control from the Keauhou coastal campsite area between sea level and 2,400 feet elevation.
8 a.m. and noon April 8: Survey and control invasive trees from Pepeiao Cabin area to the park’s western border between 1,000 and 2,500 feet elevation.
10 to 11 a.m. April 13 and 16: Between Hōlei Pali and ʻĀpuʻa Point for water tank installation, toilet repairs and maintenance between sea level and the 4,000 feet elevation.
The park regrets any noise impact to residents and park visitors.
