Hilo workshop to offer free food safety training for food businesses
Hawaiʻi Commercial Kitchens will host a free food safety workshop aimed at helping food-related businesses strengthen safety practices and remain compliant with regulations.
The workshop is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 15, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Hilo Food Hub. It is the first free Hawaiʻi Commercial Kitchens workshop of 2026.
Organizers said the event is designed for food entrepreneurs, processors and small business owners who manage multiple aspects of their operations and need practical guidance on food safety.
The technical assistance workshop will be presented by Hawaiʻi Farm-to-Car by Hoola Farms and will feature Chef Jess Devendorf of the Temple Bar. Topics will focus on food safety fundamentals and best practices for operating with confidence in commercial food environments.
Registration is required. An optional Zoom attendance option will be available for those unable to attend in person. The session will be recorded, edited and made available to registered participants at a later date, organizers said.
The workshop is supported by the County of Hawaii’s Agriculture and Food Security Initiatives Program and is funded through the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds authorized by the 2021 American Rescue Plan Act.
