House leadership appointments, committee assignments announced for 33rd Hawaiʻi Legislature

House Speaker Nadine Nakamura of Kauaʻi recently announced updated Hawaiʻi House of Representatives leadership and committee appointments for the 33rd Hawaiʻi Legislature.

New House leadership appointments for the 2025-26 term include Big Island Rep. Kirstin Kahaloa, who represents House District 6 (Hōnaunau, Nāpō‘opo‘o, Captain Cook, Kealakekua, Keauhou, Hōlualoa, Kailua-Kona), as House majority caucus leader.

Big Island state representative committee assignments for the 2026 Hawaiʻi legislative session inclue:

Agriculture and Food Systems

  • Rep. Matthias Kusch (House District 1: Hāmākua, portion of Hilo, Kaʻūmana), vice chairman.
  • Rep. Kahaloa.
  • Rep. Nicole Lowen (House District 7: Kailua-Kona, Honokōhau, Kalaoa, Pu‘uanahulu, Puakō, portion of Waikōloa).

Consumer Protection and Commerce

  • Rep. Greggor Ilagan (House District 4: Black Sands Beach Subdivision, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaiian Beaches, Kalapana, Koa‘e, Leilani Estates, Nānāwale Estates, Pāhoa, Pohoiki, Seaview Estates).
  • Rep. Lowen.

Culture and Arts

  • Rep. Jeanné Kapela (House District 5: Portions of Kea‘au and Kurtistown, Mountain View, Glenwood, Fern Forest, Volcano, Pāhala, Punalu‘u, Nā‘ālehu, Wai‘ōhinu, Hawaiian Ocean View, Ho‘okena), chairwoman.
