Scheduled Hawai‘i Island lane closures on state roadways for May 31-June 6
Hawai‘i Department of Transportation announces the following lane closures and road work projects for state roadways on the Big Island during the week of May 18-23.
NOTE: Ironman 70.3 Hawai‘i Triathlon will take place Saturday, May 31. No lane closures scheduled; route maps can be found here.

KANOELEHUA AVENUE (HIGHWAY 11)
HILO
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction at mile post 0.4, in the vicinity of Piʻilani Street, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. for crosswalk and turn lane maintenance.
- SINGLE LANCE CLOSURE possible in either direction at mile post 0.7, in the vicinity of Kekūanaōʻa Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 2-6 for crosswalk maintenance and lane lines.
KEA‘AU
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 5 to 7, in the vicinity of ‘Ikaika Lane and Old Volcano Road, on Monday June 2 to Friday, June 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for cutting grass.
MĀMALAHOA HIGHWAY (HIGHWAY 11)
VOLCANO
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 28.1 and 28.5, in the vicinity of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 2-6 for rumble strip installation.
NĀʻĀLEHU
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 58 and 60 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today (May 31) for cutting grass.
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 58.5 and 60.5 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 2-6 for cutting grass.
HŌNAUNAU
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 105 and 107, in the vicinity of Filipino Clubhouse Road and Rabbit Hill Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today (May 31) for cutting grass and shoulder work.
CAPTAIN COOK
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 107 and 109, in the vicinity of Rabbit Hill Road and Koa Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 2-6 for mowing and shoulder work.
KAMEHAMEHA AVENUE (HIGHWAY 19)
HILO
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 1.5 and 1.6, in the vicinity of Bishop Street, from 8:15 a.m. to noon June 2-6 for crosswalk and pocket lane maintenance.
HAWAI‘I BELT ROAD (HIGHWAY 19)
PĀPAʻIKOU
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 6.5 and 7.5, in the vicinity of Mill Road and Kalaoa Camp Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 2-6 cutting grass.
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 7.2 and 7.3, in the vicinity of Ka‘ie‘ie Road, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 2-3 for deck repair on Ka‘ie‘ie Bridge.
PEPE‘EKEO
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 9.6 and 9.7, in the vicinity of Old Māmalahoa Highway, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 4-5 for deck repair on Waiʻaʻama Bridge.
HAKALAU
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 15.5 and 16.5, in the vicinity of Old Māmalahoa Highway and Kauniho Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today (May 31) for tree trimming and shoulder work.
NĪNOLE
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 17 and 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 2-6 for tree trimming and shoulder work.
LAPĀHOEHOE
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between posts 23 and 25, in the vicinity of Old Māmalahoa Highway and Koi Loop, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today (May 31) for cutting grass.

- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 64 and 67, in the vicinity of Kawaihae-Waimea Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today (May 31) for cutting grass.

- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 10 and 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today (May 31) for cutting grass.

- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 12.2 and 16.4 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. June 2-6 for paving and striping.

- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 9 and 10 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. from June 2-6 for tree trimming and shoulder work.
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 9 and 12 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. today (May 31) for tree trimming and shoulder work.
PŪʻAINAKŌ STREET (HIGHWAY 2000)
HILO
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 0.5 and 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 2-6 for striping and installing new raised pavement markers.
- SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 0.5 and 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, from 5 to 11:30 p.m. June 2-6 for installation of asphalt curbs.
