Scheduled Hawai‘i Island lane closures on state roadways for May 18-23

Hawai‘i Department of Transportation announces the following lane closures and road work projects for state roadways on the Big Island during the week of May 18-23.

VOLCANO ROAD (HIGHWAY 11)

VOLCANO

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 28.1 and 28.5, in the vicinity of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 19-23 for installation of rumble strips.

MĀMALAHOA HIGHWAY (HIGHWAY 11)

PĀHALA

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 47.5 and 49.5, in the vicinity of Pāhala Town, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19-23 for cutting grass.

HŌNAUNAU

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 97.2 and 104.7, in the vicinity of Hālēʻili Road and Filipino Clubhouse Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 19-23 for safety improvements.

CAPTAIN COOK

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 107 and 109.5, in the vicinity of Rabbit Hill Road and Greenwell Park, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19-23 for mowing and shoulder work.

HŌLUALOA

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 117 and 118, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19-23 for mowing.

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 1.8 and 1.9, in the vicinity of Pauahi Street, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. May 19-23 for maintaining islands and striping.

HAKALAU

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 14.5 and 16, in the vicinity of Lēopolino Road, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19-23 for tree trimming and shoulder work.
  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 16 and 16.1, in the vicinity of Lēopolino Road, from noon to 3 p.m. May 23 for inspection of the Umauma Bridge.

PĀPA‘ALOA

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 20.6 and 20.7, in the vicinity of Kā’ihuiki Road, from 8 a.m. to noon May 23 for bridge inspection of the Pōhakupuka Bridge.

NĪNOLE TO LAPĀHOEHOE

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 20 and 26, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19-23 for cutting grass and spraying for weed control.

LAPĀHOEHOE

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 21.5 and 22, in the vicinity of Uweki Road, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 22 for inspection of the Maula Bridge.
  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction near post 24.3, in the vicinity of Māmalahoa Highway, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 21 for inspection of the Kihalani Bridge.
  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 24.7 and 24.9 from noon to 3 p.m. May 20 for inspection of the Kawaikahi Bridge.
  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 24.9 and 25 from 8 a.m. to noon May 20 for inspection of the Manowaiopae Bridge.
  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 25.6 and 25.7 from noon to 3 p.m. May 19 for inspection of the Kilau Bridge.

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 22.7 and 22.8, in the vicinity of Koi Loop, from noon to 3 p.m. May 21 for inspection of the Kapehu Bridge.

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 30 and 30.1, in the vicinity of Māmalahoa Highway, from 8 a.m. to noon May 19 for inspection of the Kaʻula Bridge.

PĀHOA-KALAPANA ROAD (HIGHWAY 130)

PĀHOA

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 12 to 14, in the vicinity of Leilani Avenue, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19-23 for cutting grass.
  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 16 and 18 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19-23 for cutting grass and shoulder work.

MĀMALAHOA HIGHWAY (HIGHWAY 190)

WAIMEA

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 0 and 1, in the vicinity of Lindsey Road and Lālāmilo Farm Road, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 19-23 for paving and striping.

SOUTH KOHALA

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 12.2 and 16.4 from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. May 19-23 for paving and striping.

KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD (HIGHWAY 250)

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 9 and 11 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 19-23 for tree trimming and shoulder work.

PŪʻAINAKŌ STREET (HIGHWAY 2000)

HILO

  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 0.5 and 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 19-23 for striping and installing raised pavement markers.
  • SINGLE LANE CLOSURE possible in either direction between mile posts 0.5 and 2.2, in the vicinity of Kanoelehua Avenue and Komohana Street, from 5 to 11:30 p.m. May 19-23 for installing asphalt curbs.
