Police seek man suspected of taking items without permission from vehicle while owner used ATM

Hawai‘i Island police are 1ooking for an unidentified man suspected of helping himself without permission last month to items in a vehicle before he was confronted by a bystander and the vehicle’s owner and then fleeing.

Fortunately, the incident was caught on video surveillance.

The alleged theft happened just before 8 p.m. Dec. 18, 2024, in a bank parking lot on Pauahi Street in Hilo while the victim was withdrawing money from the bank ATM. The suspect ran on foot toward Aupuni Street following the confrontation.

Hawai‘i Police Department asks anyone who might know the identity of the suspect or has information regarding the incident to contact the department at its non-emergency number at 808-935-3311.
