Public libraries to be closed for Christmas, New Year’s

The state’s public libraries and support offices of the Hawaiʻi State Public Library System will be closed Christmas Day, Dec. 25, and New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2025.

Today, Christmas Eve, and on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, libraries that offer evening hours will close no later than 4 p.m.

The following libraries on the Big Island will have adjusted holiday hours:

  • Hilo.
  • Kailua-Kona.
  • Keaʻau.
  • Mountain View.
  • Nāʻālehu.
  • Pāhala.

Contact your local library for more information about its holiday hours.

Although public library branches will be closed, the Hawaiʻi State Public Library System digital doors are always open.

With just a library card, you can download e-books, stream movies, learn a language, read The New York Times and more.
