An elderly bicyclist was severely injured Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run crash while riding within the boundaries of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.

The vehicle was described by witnesses as gold-colored sedan. The 70-year-old man from Volcano was riding his bicycle at about 9:20 a.m. when what witnesses described as a gold sedan struck him at the intersection of Highway 11 and the road to Nāmakanipaio Campground.

National Park Service law enforcement officers are investigating.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or might have information about it is urged to contact Officer Meagan Kubojiri by calling 808-985-6170 or via email at Meagan_Kubojiri@nps.gov.
