The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Hawai‘i Island starting late Sunday night through Tuesday.

A flood watch means conditions are favorable for possible flooding to occur.

Due to the flood watch, the Hawai‘i County Civil Defense Agency advises:

  • Residents in flood prone areas, take time to prepare for possible heavy rains and potential flooding.
  • Road closures may occur without notice.
  • Do not attempt to cross flowing water in a vehicle or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
  • If lightning threatens your area, the safest place to be is indoors.
