Update: Runway reopens at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport following brief closure

Update at 2: 31 p.m. Oct. 17: The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation reports the runway at the Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport is reopen.

Passengers should contact their airline to check the status of their flight.

Original post at 2:02 p.m. Oct. 17: The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation reports that the runway at Ellison Onizuka Kona International Airport is temporarily closed because of a nose gear collapse of a Cessna aircraft.

Flights into and out of Kona are being delayed. Flights already enroute to Kona are being diverted.

Crews are on-site to tow the aircraft off the runway.
