Hilo man’s federal probation revoked after narcotics warrant turns up meth, pot, pistol and more

A 48-year-old Hilo man faces numerous charges after police discovered methamphetamine, marijuana, a pistol and more Tuesday at his residence near Hilo Intermediate School.

Chico Martines was arrested and charged with:

• 2 counts of first-degree promotion of a dangerous drug.
• 2 counts of first-degree promotion of a harmful drug.
• Promotion of a controlled substance near a school.
• 2 counts of ownership prohibited.
• Possession of prohibited weapon (pistol magazine with a capacity greater than 10).
• Alteration of identification marks prohibited (firearm with obliterated serial number).

His total bail was set at $560,000.

Martines made his initial court appearance Friday in South Hilo District Court, during which his bail was maintained. He remains detained.

A preliminary hearing was set for 2 p.m. Sept. 10 in South Hilo District Court.

Martines was also on federal probation at the time of his arrest. His probation has been revoked.

Hawai‘i Police Department’s Area I Vice Section arrested Martines at about 2 p.m. Tuesday after a narcotics search warrant was executed at his residence.

Police recovered 3.9 ounces of meth along with various methamphetamine related paraphernalia, 2.8 ounces of marijuana, 2.4 ounces of marijuana concentrate, a pistol with an obliterated serial number, ammunition and $1,700 in cash.
